RRC partners with Sleep Unlimited to help teach people how vital sleep is for their wellbeing

RRC partners with Sleep Unlimited to help teach people how vital sleep is for their wellbeing

Richard Stockley · 19/11/2024 ·

RRC are delighted to announce their new partnership with Sleep Unlimited to offer IOSH Approved Sleeping Well to Work Safely to our customers. This one day course, delivered through Live Online sessions, aims to help people understand how work can impact sleep quality, the common sleep disorders people may experience and how individuals can identify and manage insomnia disorders to improve their sleep quality.

Developed in 2023, this course addresses the clear risk to health and wellbeing posed by poor sleep. It comes after an increasing number of reports have highlighted insomnia as a key issue for UK adults. According to Mental Health UK, 1 in 5 UK adults suffer from poor sleep, while NHS Scotland states that 1 in 3 adults suffer from insomnia. While there are many factors that contribute to poor sleep, work can be a key contributor. Research into sleep found that 37% of UK adults cite work as a reason for reducing the amount of control they feel they have over their sleep.

The impact of sleep deprivation can be seen in all aspects of a person’s life, including their work. Among the many areas affected by lack of sleep are:

  • Poor focus, memory and concentration
  • Increased consumption of caffeine and sugary drinks
  • Increased likelihood of participating in risk and anti-social behaviour
  • Poor mood and difficulty regulating emotions
  • Lower resilience and ability to manage stress
  • Increased risk of colds and infection

“Being able to understand the science of sleep, sleep disorders and how to identify them are key to tackling poor sleep for yourself and your colleagues and is why RRC are excited to offer IOSH Approved Sleeping Well to Work Safely,” states RRC Managing Director Richard Stockley.

“We’ve all experienced the effects of poor sleep – it makes everything feel difficult, and can negatively impact your work and relationships if not addressed. We think it’s important that employers and employees alike develop an understanding of sleep, how their work impacts it and what they can do to reduce their risk of poor sleep and associated illnesses.”

IOSH Approved Sleeping Well to Work Safely can be booked now through RRC for individuals and for group in-company bookings. Find out more here.
