The Safety & Health Expo commences on the 18th of June and will run for three consecutive days. Excitement is building up, and below is a rundown of what you can look forward to in more detail.
Schedule of Events
In addition to the Key Note Speakers: Jonny Wilkinson CBE, Steph McGovern and Eddie the Eagle, there will be numerous seminars running over the course of the three day event. There will be hundreds of influential HSE figures delivering speeches, ranging from representatives from IOSH all the way to Transport for London.
New for the SHExpo 2019, there is also a PPE Attack Zone where there will be visual demonstrations of innovations in PPE. And a Safety Technology zone will be available, where viewers can enjoy product demos and case studies. Moreover, there will be talks discussing the benefits and implications of AI and VR technological updates.

Key Note Speakers
Inspirational figures, well-known by the public will be discussing Health and Safety from different perspectives.
Jonny Wilkinson CBE
Famous for his Rugby Career, Jonny Wilkinson CBE will discuss the psychological aftermath of becoming a successful sports celebrity. The mental health effects are often the side of fame that is not portrayed in the media.
His speech, ‘’Success on the field and mental health: a personal account of understanding what matters.’’ Will be renounced at The Expo, Jonny will retrospectively explore what his struggles have taught him.
Jonny will be talking in the Keynote Theatre, Sponsored by MAPA, at Safety & Health Expo on Thursday 20 June at 11:30am.
Steph McGovern
Perhaps better known for her presenting work with the BBC; focusing on financial and educational matters, Steph actually started out her career with an apprenticeship in engineering for Black & Decker. At the age of 19, she was awarded ‘Young Engineer for Britain’, after saving Black & Decker £150,000 a year by improving production techniques used for the Leaf Hog product (Wikipedia, 2019).
Additionally, she is involved in BBC community projects such as BBC Outreach and BBC School Report. She runs workshops for young people, and is regularly participating in educational and apprenticeship schemes.
Steph will be speaking as part of Women in Health & Safety and will be in the Keynote Theatre, at 11:30am on Tuesday 18 June.
Eddie the Eagle
His birth name being Michael Edwards, ‘Eddie the Eagle’ is an English Skier who represented GB in the 70m and 90m ski jumping at the Calgary Olympics. He held the British ski jumping record and started off his career without any funding.
Throughout his speech, he will be joined by Larry Wilson (CEO and Author of Safestart UK). Eddie will discuss enduring serious injury and his perspective on risk.
